Hold Up, Wait a Minute...

I don’t know about land of the free, but this home is definitely of the brave.

Y’all thought that was all I was going to say about this? That’s cute. Don't worry, I have simmered down since the last post... kinda, LOL! This one is long though; keep reading if you’re trying to learn something for once in your life.

I took a moment to reflect on the way that these events affect my life. Most are of indirect distress, as my socioeconomic status is not a common avenue for direct police brutality or even as much profiling as it could be if I lived on MLK Blvd. I live in a neighborhood of white people. A community so white that 21 years ago, when my family originally moved to the house in this city, every last family in every last house on every last angle visible from our windows, packed up their belongings and moved far, far away. Well I don’t know how far, but I know they didn’t want to live in a development tainted by POC. Within the first year of living in our home, we had entirely new neighbors, and we were the first of all of my community with any melanin in our skin. I am not mad at it.

But I peeped game.

At most, I get the occasional purse clutch when I walk by or some other passive microaggression. They don’t always intentionally do these things. I don’t look intimidating enough to actually snatch their purses, but they still don’t trust me. Because they look at us like innate savages; like a pit bull that will turn on you at the first sign of defense. It isn’t always rooted in intentional hate, but they are very clearly, naturally frightened of us. Also not mad at this. Everyone is intimidated by pitbulls until they meet them; but when they are triggered or find themselves on the defense, you better be able to run. FAST.

There are 3 different types of white people:

  • Allies

    • Y’all are usually electric sliding with us at the cookout. You have probably dated black people in your past or present; maybe your babies are black too. We don’t have to tell that you’re not allowed to touch our hair or why things are offensive.

    • You know that all lives matter ONLY if black lives matter too. You also fight racists.

  • Covert and dismissive

    • These are the people who are not racist, but are not anti-racist. It simply is not relevant because they don’t have any black people in their lives that they value.

    • They may even be anti-racist for what it's worth, but still don’t agree with Colin kneeling because it some kind of way translates to “I hate America and it’s military; Ima slap one when I see them on the street”.

    • Doesn’t deny or acknowledge systematic oppression.

  • Racists

    • These deplorable human beings don’t care that you’re a white identifying Cuban or Puerto Rican, or that you are a registered Republican. They hate you just like they hate me, just like they hate the Thai women and men who do their nails, just like they hate the cab driver in NYC who wears a turban, just like they hate Jewish men and women who look just like them. They hate us because we were born.

    • They still look at us Black people like ⅗ of a person. They still think we are savage animals that should be kept “in our places”, or should “go back to Africa” as though we brought ourselves and ancestors here in the first mf place.

    • Also see: Karen.

Karens are especially dangerous because they are literally weaponizing police. If you are not familiar with the case of Emmett Till, I strongly encourage you to google his story. A little 14 year old boy lost his life in the most violent way because a white woman (the original and ultimate Karen) flexed her white tears muscles to LIE on him for reasons she had not disclosed up until her death. She actually admitted to lying decades after the fact. After Emmett was dead and gone. After much of anything could be done about it. He was beaten violently and hanged. Don't mind if I share some photos from his funeral to remind you why we vehemently despise Karen.

May Carolyn Donham’s evil soul rot in the fiery hell inferno, along with anyone who shares the sentiments that caused this to happen.

Society caters to the entitlement and privilege that Karen possesses by allowing her to police the people around her (a.k.a. be in everybody else damn business). This can cost people (mostly of color) their freedom and their lives, and the worst part of all of it is: SHE KNOWS IT.

America has this nasty habit of looking at the result without looking into the cause. People are looting the streets and lighting things on fire; this, we can agree, is a wild and extremist approach. Before you highlight the lady in a wheelchair getting slapped at Target, take a moment to highlight the reason they were in Target looting it in the first place, instead of it being a normal day as a patron. This is a struggle that privilege will desensitize you to. We are so desensitized to black death that its disgusting. Not to mention the fact that white men and women (and even children) defined the looting as we know it by participating many moons ago; harassing and killing the Black communities, lighting them on fire, raping their women, etc. See also: Tulsa Race Riot.

And until we are able to get more quality people into the seats of our White House and courtrooms (judging and representing us), in our hospitals, in our classrooms, policing our streets, we will remain a septic nation. The entirety was built on lies and hate, so it must be gutted and restructured completely. The KKK had been put in positions of power, and lots still reside there along with potential descendants. This is why they have never wanted us to learn to read, let alone graduate college and find lucrative careers that we have today. They are losing the pressure of their thumb on our lives, the more we penetrate the system. They are afraid that we will do unto them what they’ve done (past and present) to us.

There are no bootstraps for some of us to pull ourselves up by in a system built to fail us. From housing, to education, to health, to imprisonment; we were never supposed to make it as far as we have because we have never had the resources that the melaninless skin have had.

I wish this was something they taught us in school. Black history is American history. This country would be so deficient without us, partly because we helped build it. We fought in wars for freedoms we didn't even possess. I highly suggest a trip to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture. I dare you to walk through those pieces of history and through those 8 floor’s worth of stories and NOT WEEP. I dare you. It could have been me, and that in itself sends chills through my skin so deep, they pierce my soul.

Until White people start participating in these conversations, unapologetically speaking to other non black people about these issues, bringing awareness and knowledge, people will remain ignorant. Some because they want to be, some because they genuinely don't know. We as Black people can’t do it alone; “they” don’t listen to us. “They're” too busy being offended by the words Black Lives Matter, as if asking for people to stop killing us because we were born is asking too dang much. Some of us also can’t do engage in these conversations out of fear of punching the other party in the face because of our all-consuming rage. White people are an imperative piece to changing an entire system.

I will use my platform to educate all 1k+ of my followers every chance I get; to remind them to not let up, and to keep the same energy no matter how uncomfortable these conversations are… Just like Kap.

I will be creating a space on my site where you can go to support BLM or any other ways to support in relation to the cause at hand, including Black business promotions. Please feel free to email/DM/message me with your business information or anything you want me to include.
